Acupuncture

o Understanding acupuncture -- In order to differentiate pain, Chinese Medicine uses four methods of investigation: 1.- inquiry 2.- observation 3.- palpation and 4.- listening. After identifying a diagnosis, acupuncture points are selected based on the point's action and the indicated channels of the body. Acupuncture works by activating energy in channels of the body.

o Acupuncture Treatments -- Points are stimulated by rotating needles until the patient feels a tight, twisting sensation. Individual points have specific therapeutic effects on the body's organs, channels and vital energy. General sessions last aobut 30 minutes. Being relaxed, calm, quiet and positive helps patients maximize the benefits of acupuncture treatments

Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine -

Oriental Medicine is the collective use of Chinese pulse and tongue diagnosis, Acupuncture and the use of Easter botanical medicines. It is based on the principle that we have channels of energy (Qi) and bloood running through our body. Pain is created when the channel's qi and blood become blocked. The goal is to harmonize the system by balancing the flow in the channels.

This system of health care that has been used effectively for thousands of years in Asia, has only been introduced to North American in the 20th century. Since its introduction, Naturopathic Doctors have used needle acupuncture and Eastern Botanicals as a traditional part of their practice. Acupuncture has been tested clinically by Western Medicine in the treatment of chornic pain and in the weaning from addictive substances such as nicotine, caffeine and many drugs.
